Web hosting: What should you look for in provider?

Are you happy with your web hosting company?

Is price the most important element to consider when looking for web hosting? Not always! For me, the most important part is how fast and how good their customer service is. Automatic backups are also a must nowadays!

Web Hosting ImageA client recently had an issue on his website. We needed to restore the whole website because it had been hacked. I contacted his hosting company. They said they do make daily backups, but in order to restore to a past version, they needed to do some manual work, and so they charged a big chunk of money to do that. It was actually the equivalent to what I now pay for about 3 years of web hosting, with automatic backup and automatic restore services are included!

According to W3Techs, WordPress powers 34% of all the websites on the Internet, including those without a content management system (CMS) or with a custom-coded CMS.

If your website is part of the 34% powered by WordPress, then specialised WordPress hosting while not necessary, is ideal.

Until recently, my WordPress websites were hosted in regular (non-specialised) hosting because that's how I started a few years ago. But when I switched to a specialised hosting, I realised what I was missing out on!

Now, I shall look forward and tell you about my great hosting experience with my new hosting company. I first met them at a WordCamp back in 2015 - they seemed very switched on, but I already had hosting back then, and wasn't interested in switching.

But once I started maintaining websites for clients, I realised that some of the other web hosting companies can be really poor with regards to features, updates and customer service. It was then when I started comparing hosting prices and features again. So I thought, "I need to test them!"

Test your hosting and ask questions before you commit

I started by migrating one of my websites and asked many, many, many, (and many more!) questions, and I opted for chat support. I had different people every time I opened the chat. I did it at different times of the day and different days of the week, even weekends. And every time I had a very knowledgable person at the other end of the chat. And every time they went beyond my expectations. Very savvy men and women.

I was hooked and amazed by their quality of their customer service and their technical knowledge!

After testing with a couple of websites, I became a reseller and an affiliate, this is how much I love them. So, if you ask me, which hosting should I go for, I would recommend SiteGround hands down. But there are others I have heard good things about, you just need to try them out and ask questions. And make sure they offer great support, daily backups, and automatic updates to save yourself from future unexpected bills should anything go wrong.
